IELTS Academic exam structure
Structure of IELTS Academic
The IELTS Academic exam consists of four sections:
Listening (30 minutes): This section features four audio recordings, including conversations and monologues. You will answer a series of questions that test your understanding of main ideas, factual information, opinions, and attitudes.
Reading (60 minutes): The reading section contains three long texts which can range from descriptive to analytical. These texts are sourced from books, journals, and newspapers, and often include diagrams or charts. The questions assess your comprehension of details, logical arguments, and implied meanings.
Writing (60 minutes): The writing section consists of two tasks. In Task 1, you will be asked to describe and interpret visual information, such as graphs, charts, maps, or processes. Task 2 is an essay in which you must present and justify an argument, solution, or opinion on a given topic.
Speaking (11-14 minutes): This part includes a face-to-face interview with an examiner. It consists of three parts: a short introduction and interview, a structured long turn where you speak about a specific topic, and a discussion with the examiner on more abstract ideas related to the topic.
